We Are Treasured- 1 John 3:1-3 || Marissa Dodgen

1 John 3:1 should reach us all…

“see what kind of love the father has given us that we should be called Children of God,”

I mean wow, we aren’t just the people he created. We aren’t just the people who he gave his son for. We aren’t even just a check box on his eternally long list of creation.

WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD! Let that sink in for just a second, I’ll be right here waiting ,

People die for their children or risk a limb to save their children. People give up everything to raise a child. Mothers give up their bodies to grow children. Some miraculous & selfless women want children so much they don’t even care about growing them, but allow them to grow outside of their body. Those chosen women give up their bodies to grow someone else’s child. Some parents even give it all to raise someone else’s child as their own. We do amazing & selfless things where children are concerned.

But The God of this universe did more than all of that…He knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13).

He didn’t just grow you…nope…he put you together. Piece by piece, cell by cell, he created us all. Genesis 2:7 tells us that “the Lord God formed the man from dust from the ground & breathed into his nostrils the breath of life“.

He gave us breath. He didn’t just say “zap breath”. No, he gave Adam, us, his actual breath. For real, let that sink in again.

Do you feel it yet?

There are multiple definitions of treasured. As a description it means valued or highly prized; but as an action it means to regard or treat as precious.

We aren’t just special, we are precious in his sight. Everyone would agree that newborns are the breathing definition of precious. We ew & ah over them. We watch them endlessly & any new parent knows what it feels like to think your heart will explode. That is precious. And that is how he feels about us, but even more so because he is our Creator, our Father, & he sent his son, our Saving Grace, to this earth to die in our place. That is love. That is the truest example of a father’s love.

So, as this week goes on, I challenge you to let that sink it. Let the gravity of who we are allowed to be sink into your soul.

If you don’t feel that…pray it. Lord, speak to me. Let me feel treasured by you.

If you doubt it, read his word, it is weaved through out the Bible more than any theme. Just look up love.

Don’t understand it? Go back to the previous two things, study his word & pray. He is faithful to all who seek him.
