Heavy right? Two hot button topics are discussed in chapter 2. The purpose of this study is for you to learn one of the many ways to study the bible through a short, but loaded, book. When we started, I knew I didn’t want it to be what I got from the word, but what God is laying on your heart & what is applicicable to where you are in life right now. So I am not going to go off on these topics & tell you my opinon of what I thought about chapter 2.
I did however want to give you a little something to think about when it comes to the second part of Chapter 2.
Let’s look at a the fruit & vine anology again….
A vine can be living whether or not it is producing fruit. A vine that doesn’t produce fruit is still a vine, the fruit does not take away from that; but in order to be a vine that is thriving & growing & functioning properly, it must produce fruit. Just like our faith.
Now let’s do a little word replacement here, which you are familar with at this point.
A FAITH can be living whether or not it is producing WORKS. A FAITH that doesn’t produce WORKS is still a FAITH, the WORK does not take away from that; but in order to be a FAITH that is thriving & growing & functioning properly, it must produce WORK.
See what we did there?
We can have faith & not works. Chapter 2 says even the demons believe. But in order to have a faith that is growing, thriving, & functioning properly our faith must produce works. Verse 22 says, “You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works”. Faith is not dependant on our works, but our works show the condidtion of our faith.
