I Don’t Care What Will Kill Your Kids…I’m Just Trying Not To Kill Mine!

I don

I can so relate with this article by Sarah Kallies [you should absolutely read it after you read this one]. For years, I researched the healthier, organic, all-natural, non-toxic, non-GMO lifestyle. I have been inundated with “things that will kill you”. Add, on top of that, whatever current craze or outrage there is & the list of everything that leads to death is mind-boggling, but for real…we all know it is going to happen at sometime. We are called to be warriors for Christ & be the beautiful feet that bring the good news, not spread panic & cause people to be disheartened by what we think is a big deal.

A few months ago, I found myself literally walking in circles through the grocery store trying to find stuff. What was I supposed to be buying organic? What is the number 1 GMO? Is parabens or mineral oil worse? Should my notebook paper be from organic, recycled, raw material or white with blue lines? My brain had hit capacity, I couldn’t do it anymore.

So I told myself, I was going to do my best. Use my smarts & what I have researched & the good sense that God gave me & leave the rest to Him, having peace that feeding my child a Oreo {gasp} wasn’t going to turn him into Quasimodo. I picked a few areas to be organic or non-toxic & I read labels- picking the lesser of the evils. But in general, I am done. I’m with Sarah on this, 100%. I’m just trying to make it through life with a 4 & 2-year-old. I don’t have the brain power, patience, or energy to worry about what worries those “perfect moms”- btw no one is perfect in case you haven’t heard, so please don’t believe otherwise.

I don

I used to blog about food & nutrition & non-toxic products & teach about what was so bad. I stopped “educating” people on all of that, after I was told my filtered water will kill me & that my kids watching tv will make their eyeballs recede into their heads & pop out of their butts [ok- slight exaggeration on that last part]. It was absolute over kill & pushed me over the edge. I remember how I felt after that breaking point & I didn’t want anyone else to feel that way. I have realized that life is difficult enough with all the whispers in your ears, suggestions, & headlines being shared in your face. I didn’t want to add to the stress for others anymore. So I shut my mouth & keep my opinions to myself unless someone asks.

So mamas, you do you. Do what works for your family. So your kids go to bed late- mine watch too much tv. So you eat out all the time- Sally homemaker feeds her kids at home but only hot dogs & mac & cheese. My child threw an epic tantrum in public & had to be dragged out of Chick-Fil-A yesterday. SO WHAT?!

And ps: I am told by my 4-year-old that I am wrong more than enough, I don’t need the opinions of others too. We are all just doing our best.

If we love them, cuddle them, teach them manners, bandage their booboos, tuck them in at night or give them good morning kisses, & teach them how to be decent humans who love & respect people & honor God….who cares what you feed your family, slather on their skin, or allow them lick…. (yes, I just said that).

Whoops, I tripped off my soap box & while I get up, please don’t forget to hop on over to Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube & connect with me there, I would love to hear what you think.
